Abstract

A reservoir mounted on the rear of a two-chamber cylinder, together with an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber, constitutes a threechamber cylinder. This paper proposes a piecewise analytical model for the three-chamber cylinder based on its operating principle. Moreover, block diagram and transfer function model for the cylinder are achieved through a detailed analysis of continuity equations and orifice equations for the mass flowrate employing linearization techniques at a local equilibrium point. To justify the proposed transfer function model, an experimental rig is set up and an identification procedure dealing with experimental data measured is carried out by using IDENT. The conclusions show that both models can offer the ability to provide foundation for the further study of the dynamic characteristics of the three-chamber cylinder.
