The binding of biotin to gold nanorods (Au-NRs) conjugated to neutravidin is accompanied by an increase in the fluorescence intensity of protein´s tryptophan residues. Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), combined with the known affinity of streptavidin for biotin, led to the development of a high-sensitive enzyme activity assay.
